To All My Fellow Countrymen...

Pic Courtesy: www.gii.in

The Indian Republic Day is defined as day our constitution was adopted, the day our nation became a republic.

But taking into account the recent issues that our country has been facing, the terror attacks all over the country, the economic slowdown, etc. do you think that the Republic Day should be seen in new context?

Should we assign a completely new (or a better) meaning to this Republic Day?

This Republic Day, I am not the one giving opinions, but am asking for it from you, my readers and fellow Indians.

Jai Hind!

ARJuna, here are my thoughts. Since Republic day was when our country adopted the constitution, personally, I feel that the country should strictly implement the constitution and try to eradicate the evils in our society such as poverty, child abuse, illiteracy, and so on. It is not that we do not have laws governing them, it is just that the government has been very lax in implementing them. It may not be very easy, but as a nation, if we have to move forward, we can make a sincere effort. It may sound idealistic, but I believe we can. Jai Hind!!!

Actually ARJuna, People talk a lot! ...a lot! waaay too much on patriotism and what they can do to the society etc... but only till it bites them. I mean only until there is a sacrifice that they might need to do. When that happens, there is suddenly no noise. Suddenly my country reduces to My family.
So with people like this, even changing / giving new meaning to republic day does not make sense. And when I say people, I mean all of US.

Well, I agree with you. There is a lot to be done, laws need to be enforced. But don't you think that it is high time that we need to force the govt. to do it?
Thank you for your comment

@Zeon
What I can understand from your outlook is that you are earnestly hoping for a change in "US" (meaning all of us of course) So this republic day the change/improvement/new meaning should come from us the people.
Atleast thats what I think you are trying to say.
Whatever it maybe your opinion is of utmost importance and thanks for sharing it with me.

ARJuna, definitely, the government should be accountable for its actions. But, in the current scenario, where raising your voice against the government translates to losing your life, (reminds one of many such people we read everyday), I wonder what tools are we equipped with, to force the government to do its job.

On every Republic day there should be 10 social issues on basis of priority listed by the people and Govt of India and those issues should be solved by the next Republic Day.
Gives a whole new meaning to the day every year.
Every Indian should and will participate on those social issues and see how far the nation was united to work towards solving those issues.
This will show if India has the strength, power and capability of fighting and solving issues within the span of 12 months.

THIS Republic Day definitely had a better meaning, though, perhaps it wasn't as NEW.
The post 26/11 era has seen the country wake up. We are poised, yet again. Poised to transcend the frontiers of social evils that have abound us for ages now.
And this spirit, I feel, is not new. Its the same spirit that prevailed in the pre-independence era. And I do hope that it proves to be just as strong.
But in the history of post-independence era, it is definitely better. Or best.

I feel the first thing we should deal with as a country is the corruption issue. India is a rich country, but all the money is concentrated in the wrong hands, that's all. Liked your perspective of things...nice to see another teenager blogging so frequently! Do keep going!
